JOB DESCRIPTION

To deliver specialized, evidence-based care in the management of acute, chronic, and cancer-related pain using interventional and non-interventional techniques. The Consultant will lead multidisciplinary approaches to pain relief and functional restoration, ensuring high standards of patient-centered care in line with SEHA protocols and international guidelines.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Evaluate and manage patients with complex pain conditions, including neuropathic, musculoskeletal, postoperative, and cancer-related pain.

Perform interventional pain procedures such as nerve blocks, epidural injections, facet joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, and intrathecal therapies.

Develop individualized treatment plans integrating pharmacologic, physical, psychological, and procedural interventions.

Work closely with departments such as orthopedics, neurology, oncology, palliative care, and rehabilitation in a multidisciplinary setting.

Ensure the safe administration of anesthetics and sedation when required for pain procedures.

Lead and participate in inpatient and outpatient pain clinics, case reviews, and pain boards.

Monitor treatment outcomes, document procedures, and ensure accurate, timely entries in SEHA’s electronic health records system.

Supervise and educate junior doctors, residents, and allied health professionals in pain management principles.

Contribute to research, quality improvement initiatives, and the development of clinical guidelines for pain management within SEHA.

Adhere to infection control, patient safety, radiation safety, and regulatory compliance as per DOH and SEHA standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Basic Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.

Completion of residency in Anaesthesiology and fellowship in Pain Management from a recognized program.

CCT UK, Arab Board, American Board, any Western Board Certification in Anaesthesiology with subspecialty training in Pain Medicine (e.g., ABA, FIPP, FRCA with Pain Medicine subspecialty, or equivalent).

Valid DOH Consultant License in Anaesthesiology with Pain Management, or eligibility to obtain it.

Experience

Minimum 5 years post-specialty certification experience as a Consultant in Anaesthesiology with focused practice in Pain Medicine.

Demonstrated clinical competence in interventional pain procedures and multidisciplinary pain care models.
