Head Nurse — Qualifications and Requirements

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (required).
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration (MHA/MBA) (preferred).
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) – DOH or DHA License

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or leadership role (Charge Nurse or Nurse Supervisor).
  • Proven experience in staff management, clinical coordination, and patient care quality improvement.
  • Experience with resource allocation and nursing administration preferred.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards, infection control protocols, and healthcare regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with staff, physicians, patients.
  • In-depth knowledge of nursing principles, hospital policies, and clinical best practices.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, staff development, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and evaluate nursing personnel.
