Job Description

Clinical:

  • Ensures that professional standards are maintained at all times.
  • Ensures that the staff on duty understand and observe the Dallah Home Care written policies and procedures pertaining to clinical practice and nurse management and monitors their implementation.
  • Ensures that doctors’ orders and patient management plans are followed and that appropriate steps are taken, including immediate notification of the resident in-charge or on-call, of any deterioration from the expected course of the patient’s condition. Exercising advocacy and accountability for the patient’s interest at all times.
  • Ensures that the appropriate records of the patient’s progress are completed and maintained according to the Dallah Home Care policies and procedures.
  • Provides and participate in the general and visit orientation to newly hired staff and on-going clinical education for all staff.
  • Maintains an up-to-date record of all drugs, intravenous fluids, etc. as required by the Pharmacy, and ensures that the rules and regulations governing the administration, storage and custody of all drugs in particular controlled drugs and narcotics are strictly observed at all times.
  • Ensures stock and supplies are available and stored correctly at Home care medical stores.
  • Oversees and coordinates the patient plan of care and monitors the multidisciplinary activities to help ensure quality in patient care
  • Develops a schedule that ensures staffing needs are met according to approved staffing levels, adjusting the distribution to meet the needs and acuity of patients, seeking approval for overtime before changing staff assignments.
  • Support nurses during visits and act as nurse backup when needed.

Administrative:

  • Performs any other tasks within his/ her competence as directed by Head Nurse or Director of Nursing.
  • Anticipating changes in staffing needs by discussing workload changes with all nursing staff including the assessment of staffing for the next shift.
  • Adjusting staffing according to visits needs and approving overtime as required. Arranging for excess staff to be floated.
  • Directing staff for reassignment as individual by visit demands and delegating duties appropriately. Using good judgment when assigning breaks to cover visits adequately.
  • Maintains continuity of care at the take over and handover reports, ensuring that the communication is clear at all times.
  • Ensuring that appropriate and functional equipment (e.g. Syringe pump, Infusion pump, Dynamap, & etc.) is available during visits for patient care.
  • Arranging for appropriate patient assignment according to scope of practice of nursing personnel.
  • As manager designate, assume a leadership role in the event of a fire, emergency or disaster as outlined in Dallah Hospital Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • Anticipates, prevents and resolves any problem arising and report untoward incidents/ accident/ staff sickness to the Head Nurse.
  • Assess level of performance and participates in checking the competency of the nursing staff during visit and report to the Head Nurse as appropriate.
  • Participates in the discussion and implementation of clinical or administrative problems arising in the visit, as part of the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Ensures that all staff complied on infection control policy and procedures at all time and report for non-compliance.
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality in respect of all matters.

Staff should be competent as follows:

  • Ability to safely care for patients to reduce transmission of HOSPITAL ACQUIRED INFECTIOUS DISEASE.
  • Ability to perform a specific role in preparing for and during a potential or declared Internal and / or External DISASTER in area of practice.
  • To be able to discuss the nurse’s role and responsibility in maintaining safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Ability to SAFELY manage, store and dispose of HAZARDOUS materials in their area of practice.
  • Ability to facilitate activation, respond and evacuation in CODE RED.
  • Capable of providing safe care for deteriorating patients by having the ability to recognize EARLY WARNING SIGNS and managing any SHOCK EMERGENCY in area of practice.
  • Ability to correctly and SAFELY complete a COMPREHENSIVE PATIENT ASSESSMENT, RE-ASSESSMENT and VITAL SIGNS of patient needs in area of practice.
  • Capable of transferring professional responsibility and accountability for some or all aspects of care for a patient to another person or inter-professional team on a temporary or permanent basis.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Act as resource and delegates appropriately during emergent situations such as patient emergencies e.g. Code, Disaster emergencies.
  • Initiates and utilizes the next step in the chain of command if administrative, clinical or safety issues remain unresolved after initial intervention.
  • Act according to Standards, Values and Rules that guide our conduct and behavior.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective communication and work relationship with physician, healthcare personnel, patients, relatives and others.
  • To be able to work collaboratively by helping each other to achieve the individual and team objectives.
  • Able to maintain the highest standards of job-related technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Able to take action to address problems, barriers, and opportunities through conducting logical, factual and reasoned analysis. Weighing different options to make sound judgment before deciding on an appropriate course of action and then taking it.

  • Participate in patient and family education to help patients and families to better understand and participate in their care and make well informed care decisions.
  • Performs any other duties within the range of his/her professional knowledge and skills as directed by Director of Nursing.

Requirements

  • Three years post-basic experience, six months of which must be in the specialty.
  • Previous experience in Middle Eastern healthcare.
  • First-line Management Course.
  • Spoken Arabic & Good command of English Language.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Appropriate qualification and statutory nursing registration in the country from where recruited (BSN / RN).
  • Post-basic course qualification in the specialty.
  • Valid BLS certificate.
  • Valid ACLS certificate.
  • Valid Driving License (preferably).
