Under the direction and guidance of the Group Chief Clinical Officer, the Director – Physiotherapy Services provides strategic direction and leadership for all physiotherapy functions across NMC Healthcare facilities. The role is accountable for establishing group-wide standards, protocols, and performance benchmarks to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care. Working collaboratively with clinical and administrative leaders, the Director drives service excellence, operational efficiency, staff competency development, and compliance with national and international accreditation standards. The position plays a key role in expanding physiotherapy services, introducing innovative rehabilitation programs, and supporting the organization’s overall vision of delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. 

Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership, direction, and coordination for all physiotherapy and rehabilitation services across NMC Healthcare Group, under the guidance of the Group Chief Clinical Officer. Develop and implement a Group-wide Physiotherapy Strategy, aligning with NMC’s clinical excellence framework and organizational goals. Establish and lead the Physiotherapy Services Council/Committee to drive standardization, governance, and cross-facility collaboration. Ensure the consistent application of evidence-based physiotherapy standards, protocols, and pathways across all NMC facilities. Monitor and evaluate physiotherapy service performance across the group through regular data review, benchmarking, and KPI reporting, ensuring compliance with JCI and local regulatory requirements. 
• Lead group-level workforce planning for physiotherapy, including staffing models, recruitment strategies, training programs, and career development pathways. 
• Provide expert advisory support to hospital management teams on clinical rehabilitation infrastructure planning, space design, and equipment procurement. 
• Collaborate with the Finance and Operations teams to optimize resource utilization, manage budgets, and maximize service profitability across the group. 
• Identify opportunities for service expansion, outreach programs, and new rehabilitation modalities to strengthen NMC’s market position in physiotherapy and allied health services.  
• Optimize and oversee the creation and implementation of specialized rehabilitation programs, including Orthopedic, Neurological, Cardiac, and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation. 
• Drive clinical quality improvement initiatives to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered physiotherapy care. 
• Maximize billings and claims by ensuring effective, accurate, and timely clinic documentation, coding, and patient record management. 
• Maintain accurate patient and service data, analyzing statistics to forecast demand, identify trends, and guide strategic planning. 
• Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and all relevant policies and regulations. 
• Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary care team, ensuring integrated rehabilitation services within patient care plans. 
• Supervise, mentor, and support physiotherapy heads, senior therapists, and staff across facilities to maintain consistent standards and competencies. 
• Contribute to the development and review of clinical practices, procedures, and protocols relevant to physiotherapy and rehabilitation services. 
• Participate in and lead quality improvement and accreditation activities, ensuring compliance with national and international standards. 
• Ensure physiotherapy teams maintain current professional registration and meet continuing education requirements as per DH, DOH, MOHAP, or other applicable regulations. 
• Actively promote a culture of learning and innovation within physiotherapy teams through in-service training, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. 
• Participate in scheduled performance appraisals and support staff in achieving professional development goals. 
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and resilience in managing competing priorities and challenging operational environments. 
• Streamline physiotherapy workflows to ensure efficiency, seamless patient care, and alignment with NMC’s patient experience standards. 
• Collaborate with HR, Quality, and Clinical Education departments to design and implement competency based training programs across the group. 
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and infection control protocols, fostering a safe and compliant work environment. 
• Contribute to research and innovation initiatives in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, promoting publication, presentation, and participation in academic forums. 
• Represent physiotherapy services in Group Clinical Leadership Committees, Patient Safety & Quality Forums, and strategic taskforces, ensuring the profession’s voice is reflected in organizational decisions. 

Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems 

  • Comply with reasonable OSH instructions, policies and safe working procedures  
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.  
  • Be familiar with emergencies and evacuation procedures  
  • Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety  
  • Assist with the preparation of risk assessments  
  • Report OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues  
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycling of waste as much as possible  
  • Attend all OSH Trainings, awareness programs and mock drills.  
  • Participates in the OSHMS audits, inspections, ensuring standards are maintained 

Prevention and Control of Infection – PCI: 

  • PCI is everyone’s responsibility. All staff are required to read and implement the NMC PCI Policy and Strategy to always maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness, thus reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff and visitors.  
  • The strictest hand hygiene, 5 moments of hand hygiene, bare below the elbows and environmental care, will be expected of all staff, including the post holder, always 

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy / Physical Therapy from an accredited institution is mandatory. 
  • Current and valid professional physiotherapy license/registration from the relevant UAE health authority •       Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) 
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) participation and evidence of ongoing professional learning and competency maintenance  
  • Postgraduate qualification or specialization in areas such as Orthopedic Rehabilitation, Neurological Rehabilitation, or Sports Medicine is highly desirable. 
  • Healthcare Management or Leadership Certification (e.g., MBA in Healthcare Management, MHA, or equivalent) – desirable 
  • Additional certification / degree in Management / Healthcare Administration or relevant areas – desirable 
  • Proven leadership track record with evidence of excellent multi-professional working with clinical and operational colleagues.  
  • Knowledge of local (Emirate) and national (UAE / Oman) rules, and regulations. 
  • Ability to prioritize workload / work to deadlines under pressure.  
  • Ability to develop and influence a culture promotes clinical engagement in decision making and leading continuous change and improvement in services.
